What’s Not Included in a Kitchen Remodel Quote

When homeowners start planning their dream kitchen remodel, one of the most common points of confusion is what’s actually included in the quote. It’s easy to assume that everything you see in a kitchen—plumbing, electrical, the sink, faucet, hardware, tile, and even appliance connections—is all part of the package. The truth is, that’s not the case.
At Cartright & Sons Cabinetry, our kitchen remodel quotes are specifically for cabinetry and countertops. Everything else falls into a separate category. Here’s a clear breakdown of what is not included in your cabinetry quote.
1. Demo & Removal of Existing Cabinetry
A common misconception is that demo (removing old cabinets, countertops, or fixtures) is automatically included in your kitchen remodel quote. Demo of existing cabinetry is not included in the base quote, but it can be added for an additional cost if you’d like us to handle it.
Some homeowners choose to save money by doing demo themselves, while others are already using a general contractor to do flooring, remove walls, or make other structural changes prior to us installing new cabinetry and have them handling the demo. We're flexible- if you'd like us to take care of it, we can add it into your project pricing.
2. Appliance Hookups & Connections
While we design and install the cabinetry that houses your appliances, the actual hookups and connections are not included in our quote. This applies to:
Refrigerators with water lines
Dishwashers
Cooktops, ovens, and ranges
Vent hoods and microwaves
These services require licensed plumbers or electricians to ensure safety and compliance.
3. Personal Selection Items
Many finishing touches in a kitchen fall into what we call personal selection items. This includes:
Cabinet hardware (knobs and pulls)
Sinks
Faucets
Backsplash tile
Lighting fixtures
We can provide many of these items for you, but because costs vary widely depending on the style, brand, and finish you select, they are not included in your initial cabinetry quote. Once you’ve made your selections, we can add them to your project pricing.
4. Plumbing & Electrical Work
We don’t provide plumbing or electrical services as part of your cabinetry project. That means things like:
Installing or moving plumbing lines
Hooking up sinks, faucets, or dishwashers
Adding or relocating outlets, switches, or lighting
Instead, we work alongside licensed and reputable local companies to make sure these needs are handled seamlessly.
Why We Separate These Costs
By keeping our quotes focused on cabinetry and countertops, we’re able to:
Give you a clear, accurate price for the work we’re responsible for
Avoid inflating estimates with assumptions about personal selections or trade work
Allow you the flexibility to choose your own finishes and fixtures
Coordinate smoothly with other professionals without overlap or hidden costs
